Does a flight from Miami to LA go over sea

Does a flight from Miami to LA go over sea?
I'm going on a flight soon from Miami, Fl to Los Angeles, California and I was wondering if the plane will actually go North from Miami and through states or cross through over the ocean/Gulf of Mexico area? Thanks

you will cross the gulf

My guess would be that it would head due west over the Gulf of Mexico towards California.

It depends on the flight...most nonstops would go over the Gulf, but a connecting flight may not.

You will most likely cross the gulf, unless there is an airspace restriction there at the time. Also, you may make an approach to Los Angeles International Airport over the ocean. Usually, pilots will fly an approach from the west because of the winds, but sometimes they fly out over the ocean when the winds are coming off of the mountains. Yes, you are correct southwestskywaitress. MOST of the time, planes land westbound. But on several occasions, approaches are made eastbound because the winds roll off the mountains, forcing pilots to make an eastbound approach to avoid tailwinds. In fact, I was on a US Airways flight from PHL-LAX sometime around Easter, and we made an eastbound approach. Nice job spelling "pilot" And did I say "you will probably make an approach over the ocean"? I don't think so. Go back to 3rd grade and learn a few manners, miss.

Yes, unless the pilots have to change your flight path because of bad weather, it is more than likely you will be flying over the Gulf of Mexico. You can check by watching some flights on flight view flying this route. Hope this Helps.

Yes, you will cross the Atlantic Ocean, then the Indian Ocean, then the Pacific Ocean before reaching California, unless you fly from East to West.

I have no idea why the Pilot says that u will probably fly over the Pacific and land eastbound at LAX 99 per cent of the time the flights are westbound and land on runways 24 or 25. It is especially rare in the summer. Maybe he really isnt a pilor

some overnight flights will land over the ocean or during rainy weather if you may remember a few years back when Continental had a DC 10 (in fact it was going to hawaii but it took off eastbound but blew a tire on the runway -and caught fire,(luckly passing the airport fire station) (2 Passenger died because they didn't obey the flight attendants)
