is it cheaper to book a round trip flight or one way flights

is it cheaper to book a round trip flight or one way flights?
like instead of round trip book a flight into Miami from Boston then go and find another one way flight from Miami to Boston? The reason I ask is because I want to go to Miami for a week but the round trip cost is over $600. that's way to much where I saw a 1 way trip for $89. to miami so can that be done that way?

Occasionally it's cheaper to buy two one-way tickets. The best answer is to price it both ways (round trip and two singles) and buy the cheapest.

Depends on the airline. There are many flight types and seating arrangements but most of the time companies make it so that the round trip is cheaper than the straight flights.

Usually roundtrip is cheaper esp when you add in taxes and fees (2 one-way tickets would be double the taxes and fees). Wherever you saw the 89 one way then you should be able to 89 there and 89 back. The $600 roundtrip might have been so much because of the dates you selected. Changing your date by one day can make a big difference in price. I really like using kayak.com for checking flights. Southwest, Airtran, JetBlue have great fares too that usually dont show up on search engines like kayak.

It all depends on the airline youa re flying with. Not to mention the the Airport definitly matters. Southwest Jetblue Airtran Spirit Alligent Air Are some airlines where you can purchase a normal cheaper one way ticket. Other than that the rest of them good luck but like I stated before it all depends on the airport and the airlines serving the airport.

Usually the two singles only work out cheaper than the return when you buy from two different airlines. The ticket price has to do with how many seats are left.

go to BookMe. You can compare prices on all the major travel sites from one location. It's the only way you can guarantee the cheapest prices online.
