It all depends on the airport. The larger the airport/the more air traffic, the more of a chance you have of getting a flight canceled or delayed. Some of the biggest airports are LAX, JFK, Chicago O'Hare, and Atlanta, GA. Flights are not delayed leaving because of other flights in front of them. You may sit on the taxiway for a while, but it will not be delayed at the gate. Weather also plays a large role. In the winter, Chicago O'Hare and JFK are a mess. Airports in warmer climates, such as LAX, there aren't as many weather delays, but maybe delays because of bad weather at the destination airport.

Well first of all the part of the US that is most prone is the northern states, Northwest states, and the southeast. Second, the airports that are most pron are Atlanta, Seattle, Chicago, Detroit, and New York. Third, Yes that has happened to me before in New York because they had only 1 runway open and there were about 20 planes in line for takeoff. Fourth, well Florida is often crowded however, all of the roads are wide and Miami is very nice. Fifth, No unless there is a bad storm Miami isnt prone to cancellations.

Crowded, large airports are more prone to cancellations. So are cities with poor weather, especially poor winter weather. Unfortunately, some parts of the U.S. have some of the worst winter weather in the world.
